BMW India is gearing up for the launch of the all new 5-series in India. The car is based on an all new platform that is 100 kgs lighter than before and is intended to bring back the fun factor back that the earlier car was lacking. Unlike, Mercedes Benz, BMW India will be getting the 5-series in its regular wheelbase avatar at launch, at least from what we know about it. The 2017 BMW 5-series has been one of the best sellers in its segment and has been a popular choice amidst mid-size luxury car buyers. The company has also officially opened up bookings for it, starting today.

The all new BMW 5-series adopts an evolutionary design language with a redesigned front and rear end. The car looks a lot more athletic and fitter than before. On the insides too, the design feels evolutionary. There is an all new steering wheel to begin with, but rest of the design looks very familiar. None the less, the 2017 BMW 5-series will be the most technologically advanced car in its category with features like Remote Display Key and gesture controls borrowed from the flagship 7-series.

The 2017 BMW 5-series will be powered by a range of petrol and diesel engines in India. It will be available in the 520d, 530i and 530d formats. The 520d is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel that churns out 190 HP and 400 Nm, while the 530i is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo-petrol with around 248 HP and 350 Nm. The top of the line 530d will be powered by a 3.0-litre straight-six diesel engine with 258 HP and a monstrous 620 Nm. The car is expected to be priced in between Rs. 52-65 lakhs before taxes when it goes on sale later this month.
