Tata Kite5 Compact Sedan

Tata Kite5 Concept Auto Expo 2016

The Tata Kite5 is the codename for the sedan version of the recently launched Tata Tiago hatchback. It was showcased at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo and is all set to hit Indian roads this festive season. The Kite5 sedan is based on an all new platform and will be the third sub 4-metre sedan from Tata Motors after the Indigo CS and Zest. It will be positioned below the Zest compact sedan and is expected to be as feature rich as the Tiago hatchback. The trumpcard for this car though will be its pricing. Going by the shocking price tag the Tiago was launched with, expect the Kite5 sedan to start from Rs. 4 lakh ex-showroom which undercuts most of its competition quite easily.

The Tata Kite5 sedan will be powered by a pair of 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The petrol motor develops 85 PS while the diesel motor churns out 70 PS of max power. Both engines will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and most probably an AMT automatic gearbox too. This would make it the most affordable sedan to come with an automatic gearbox in the country. On the insides, it could get a touchscreen infotainment system on top variants and a Harman audio system to tag along with it. Rest of the dashbaord layout is expected to be similar to the Tiago hatchback.

The Tata Kite5 will borrow its face from the Tiago but will have all new styling for the rear, something that we have never seen from Tata Motors. It will compete with the Maruti Suzuki DZire, Volkswagen Ameo, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze and Ford Figo Aspire but will be priced much lower than the aforementioned cars. The Maruti Suzuki DZire has been the king of the segment for years together and will be its major rival in India. Expect the top end diesel variant to cost a bargain Rs. 6.50 lakhs which is a whole lot of car for the money.
