Volkswagen India has finally started rolling out its Ameo sub compact sedan from its manufacturing plant in Pune.

Volkswagen Ameo Pune Plant

Volkswagen India has been in the news in India since the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo for the new Ameo sub compact sedan. The company unveiled its new car just before the biennial event and announced that it will go on sale around mid-2016. The time has finally arrived as the German giant has started rolling out its all new offering from its Pune plant. The company will be accumulating inventory before its official launch. Now since the car has started rolling out, we believe that the launch too will happen soon, probably next month. Volkswagen has invested nearly Rs. 720 crore in developing various new equipment for the Ameo’s production.

Commenting on this major development, Dr. Andreas Lauermann, President and Managing Director, Volkswagen India Private Limited, said, “This day marks an important event in the journey of Volkswagen in India. The Ameo symbolizes yet another first as it has specifically been created for the Indian customers. Due to the expected high demand for the Ameo, we have recently added a third shift to support the extra production volumes at our plant. We are committed to ensuring that our customers get their Ameo as soon as possible.”

The Volkswagen Ameo will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol that develops 75 BHP and a 1.5-litre diesel that develops 90 BHP. Both will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox but the diesel will get a 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox which will be a first in class. The Volkswagen Ameo will come feature loaded with goodies like rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming IRVM, climate control system, rear AC vent, rear parking sensors with camera, touchscreen infotainment system with MirrorLink and Voice Control, electrically foldable ORVMs and steering mounted audio controls.
