Maruti Suzuki spent Rs. 89.45 crore during 2016-17 which is 140 percent more than what it did in 2014-15 and 14 percent more than what it spent in 2015-16.
Maruti Suzuki has announced that it will spend a whopping Rs. 140 crore solely for CSR initiatives during this financial year. It major efforts will lie in the road safety and aims to explore innovative technology for traffic management and control. Maruti Suzuki has also added health care as a focus area under Community Development for the year 2017-18. Lets take a brief look at how the company worked on its CSR initiatives in the outgoing year.
Driving Training:
- 2.95 lakh people (34% more than last year) trained in safe driving. Adds 40 new Maruti Driving Training Schools making it 400 across 190 cities.
- Introduced a new technology ARITRA (camera based image processing technology) for driving training at 3 Institute of Driving and Traffic research. This helped commercial drivers improve their driving accuracy and precision.
- Conducted assessment on Road Safety along with NATPAC (National Transportion Planning and Research Centre) in Gurgaon. Basis the findings the Company initiated important interventions to improve the road safety in the city.
- 2,70,000 students covered under road safety awareness program in Gurgaon.
- Released first ever comprehensive pan-India Road Safety Index
Skill Development (Automobile trade):
- Doubled recruitment of ITI students across dealer service network. 2205 students placed v/s 1100 in 2015-16
- Upgrades 25 new ITIs in last three years under Skill development programme
- Increased the beneficiary base to 6400 students per year.
- Started work on India’s first ever Japan-India Institute of Manufacturing in Gujarat
Community Development:
- Adopted 14 new villages in last three years
- Individual household toilets: 100% households covered across 10 villages; constructs 2500 toilets within 2 years
- Sets up 4 Water ATMs, provides safe drinking water to over 7000 households across 4 villages
- Improved learning levels of students in adopted government schools. Pass rate from 74% to 95% in maths, 84% to 95% in Science and 78% to 90% in English in 2016-17. Study conducted by ILFS.
