JSW to Roll Out Locally-Built Tomcar ATVs for Defence Applications in India
JSW Defence Pvt Ltd, a part of the JSW Group, has announced a joint venture between its subsidiary JSW Sarbloh Motors and Tomcar USA to locally produce advanced all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) in India. Production of the Tomcar TX range will commence in early 2026, with the primary objective of catering to India’s defence sector.
The Tomcar TX series has been developed with military operations at its core, offering a modular design that allows quick adaptation for diverse roles such as troop transport, reconnaissance, border patrol, supply runs, and tactical mobility in rugged terrains. JSW Defence has confirmed that the first set of locally built TX ATVs will undergo trials with the Indian Army and other armed forces branches soon after rollout.
Commenting on the occasion, Parth Jindal of the JSW Group, said “We are delighted to announce this strategic joint venture between JSW Sarbloh Motors and Tomcar USA, which marks a significant milestone in our commitment to enhance India’s defence capabilities. The TX platform is designed to meet the rigorous demands of our armed forces and security agencies whilst ensuring superior durability, flexibility, and safety.”
In terms of capability, the TX is available with both petrol and all-electric powertrains. The petrol variant is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine generating 161 bhp and 250 Nm, while the electric version employs a 3-phase AC motor producing 118 bhp and 237 Nm with a range of up to 161 km—ideal for silent operations and reduced heat signatures in the field.
Mark W. Farage, Interim CEO of Tomcar USA, commented: “This joint venture is the culmination of a thoughtful and deliberate process aimed at creating a truly strategic partnership. We are excited to hopefully contribute to India’s adaptation to the demands of modern warfare by providing the proven, battle-tested Tomcar platform to the Indian Army. In addition, we see enormous opportunity to deploy the Tomcar into India’s diverse commercial sectors – from mining and timber, to search and rescue, border patrol, farming, and beyond.”
The ATVs are equipped with key features tailored for military deployment, including shift-on-the-fly four-wheel drive, low-range gearing with front and rear differentials, up to 14 inches of suspension travel for extreme off-road mobility, dual fuel tanks for extended operations, and independent suspension on all four wheels. These capabilities make the TX well-suited for high-mobility missions across deserts, mountains, and border zones.
By localizing production of the Tomcar TX, JSW aims to not only strengthen India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem but also provide the armed forces with a versatile, combat-ready mobility platform built for the toughest environments.
