Honda had unveiled the all new 2020 City in Thailand only a few weeks back and we have spotted it being tested here in India. Our Sharp Shooter Arya Borhade sent us the images of the camouflaged test mule of the upcoming Honda City that has already landed on our shores.
The 2020 All New Honda City gets highly inspired design language from the elder brother the Civic. In its 5th Generation the Honda City gets longer and wider in dimensions and lower in height also the wheelbase gets shorter. In terms of exterior design the 2020 Honda City comes with Civic inspired face styling which include the signature jewel eyes headlights and Honda Wing styled face grill, the rear also gets the distinctive ‘U’ shaped wraparound LED taillights. The styling is sporty with lots of sharp design lines running across the body panels. The front and rear bumpers get rounder and have blacked out air inlets on the edges. The wing mirrors are mounted on the door instead of being fitted in the window frame.
On the inside too the cabin gets larger, the interiors now feel much better appointed and premium. The dash is inspired from the latest generation Jazz with new styled vertical styled air inlets and a larger 8 inch touch screen infotainment unit placed in the middle. This unit comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and also with Honda Connect infotainment. The climate control switches now come with touch sensitive controls while the steering wheel is an all new designed unit with three spokes and MFD control buttons placed on it. The seats get leather upholstery as well.
New engine options also come in with the 1.0L Turbocharged engine with 120bhp with the BorgWarner single-scroll turbocharger doing its job here. This engine gets a 7-speed CVT automatic transmission option with paddle shifters and no manual option. The next engine option is the 1.5L I-MMD mild hybrid unit that also powers the latest Honda Jazz. Honda has not reveled any power figures for this engine. Honda claims the 2020 Honda City would be 33% more fuel efficient and a lot greener too. India will also get the Diesel version of the City powered by the BS-6 version of the current 1.5L iDtec Diesel engine.
The 2020 Honda City also comes with six airbags, multi-angle rearview camera, Vehicle Stability Control and hill start assist. Honda would be showcasing the 2020 Honda City at the upcoming 2020 Auto Expo followed by its launch later in the year. The Honda City competes with the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento in its segment. Watch this space for more info on the all new 2020 Honda City.
