LIVE – Mahindra Celebrates India’s Independence Day in South Africa, Unveils the Thar Electric & Global Pick-Up Concepts

Mahindra has kept Its date with the 15th August Independence Day this year too unveiling two Global concepts in South Africa. The Mumbai based car maker has unveiled the THARe Electric SUV Concept and the Global Pikup based on the Scorpio N.

Speaking of the Mahindra THARe Electric Concept that was teased for some weeks now the E SUV looks brute, bold and has loads of road presence. In terms of looks the SUV comes with flat face, sides, top and rear. It does remind of the Ford Bronco or the future Hummer model. The gets a signature three slat grille with the slats glowing, square DRL headlamps, flat bumper with orange glow Color tow hooks, practical steel skid plates. The flat bonnet line gets exposed bonnet hinges.

The sides of the 5 door THARe comes with squared out wheel arches with good clearance, flushed integrated step board, flat roofline, large wheels with EV specific alloys, exposed door hinges , fixed quarter glass and lots of sharp body lines. The rear profile gets a full flat side opening boot lid against with exposed hinge  a flat mounted rear glass, centre mounted spare wheel, square tail lamps with tow hooks on the flat bumper. No technical specifications for the battery pack or the motor on the Mahindra THARe have been released yet and we will know in this in the time nearing to its launch which would be in 2026.

Mahindra has also unveiled the Global Pickup which is based on the Scorpio N model. The pick up model concept looks huge in dimensions with a massive ground clearance on it. Key styling elements on the front remind you of the Scorpio N but with loads of differences. You get a closed face grille in glossy black with large head. Lamps flushed into the face. Angular Strip DRL are placed into the headlamps that extend down into the the heavy styled bumper. The front gets a couple of tow hooks along with a couple amber color positioning lamps placed in the bonnet lip. Side profile includes massive sized wheels on alloys, snorkel type air intake, dual shaped step board, blacked out wheel arches, loading area on the roof with white LED flood lights.

The rear profile gets multiple block designed LED stop lamps with a Mahindra branding on the boot area opener. The storage area comes loaded with a pair of spare wheels and loads of space. Cabin area has not been shown but we expect everything that the Scorpio N came with to be carried on to the Global Pickup. Engine option have not been disclosed but we expect the 2.2L Diesel engine with 4×4 option to be powering this Pickup. Mahindra has gone aggressive big time with these Global unveils wanting a larger share of market in India and in the markets it exports to. Exciting times ahead for Mahindra and its fans for sure.
