Mercedes unveils the Vision EQXX Concept that does 1000kms with a single charge
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the Vision EQXX concept that boasts of 1000kms range in a single charge. The Concept EV was unveiled virtually at the ongoing CES 2022 Tech Trade Show. Mercedes also claims that on an average you would only need to charge this EV twice a month. Power comes from an electric motor that makes 201 horsepower (150 kilowatts). The power transfer is highly efficient with 95% of it getting transferred to the wheels. Mercedes has not revealed the Battery capacity of this EV yet but says it’s maximum system voltage is 900 volts.
Then you also have solar panel with 117 cells on the roof which this vehicle uses to power many of the ancillary electric systems, like the blower for the HVAC system, lights, and infotainment system. A separate lithium-iron-phosphate battery stores the energy. In ideal conditions, this tech can free up 15.53 miles (25 kilometers) of range. The EQXX weighs just 1675kgs with compact dimensions and a ultra-low drag coefficient of just 0.18 making this one of the most aerodynamic cars. The total weight of the battery on this Concept EV is just 495 kgs.
In terms of exterior styling the body gets a smooth and teardrop shape running from the roof to the tail. There are also active cooling shutters in the front grille that only open when necessary. At the back, a rear diffuser deploys at high speeds but fits seamlessly into the body when not in use. You also get ultra-low-rolling-resistance special tires from Bridgestone. The tyre design features aerodynamically optimised sidewalls to match the covers mounted on the 20‑inch, lightweight, forged-magnesium wheels. The semi-transparent double-spoke design of these covers meets all aerodynamic requirements while at the same time retaining a view of the rose-gold accents adorning the wheels.
The Concept electric is built on the chassis that features a lightweight F1 subframe. The face is defined with the sloping front with a gloss-black grille with rose-gold highlights, plus a 2D star pattern on the front bumper. The headlights come with two star-shaped elements with the larger one housing the low-beam and high-beam light arrays behind a center lens. Mercedes says this star arrangement and the 2D star pattern on the bumper offers a preview of front-end design detailing that will be featured in future models. Moving to the back end you also get a retractable rear diffuser.
Mercedes-Benz says “VISION EQXX accelerates Mercedes-Benz goal to “Lead in Electric” and set benchmarks in sustainable mobility”.
In terms of interiors the Mercedes EQXX you get 47.5 inches display with 8k resolution that runs a navigation system with 3d graphics that can depict a city from a satellite view down to a height of 33 feet. The cabin area uses sustainable materials like fabric that uses Biosteel silk-like fiber, vegan leather that comes from mushrooms, animal-free leather from pulverized cactus fibers, and bamboo-based carpets. Mercedes-Benz has not disclosed as to when they would get the production version of the EQXX but for now here’s the Concept. The EQXX also features an advanced voice assistant and software that learns your behavior over time.
