Expected Launch: October 2016
Estimated Price: Rs. 4.50-6.80 lakhs
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis was unveiled to the world last year at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. More recently it was even showcased at this year’s 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. It is based on the iM-4 Concept that was previewed at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and will be the company’s first foray into the Micro SUV segment in India. The car measures just 3,679mm in length which easily ducks under the vital 4-metre mark but will compete with the likes of the Mahindra KUV100.
As far as looks go, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis feels like a pseudo SUV like its meant to be. The car will boast high ground clearance and SUV like upright stance. The big rectangular headlamp units could be offered with projector beams and LED DRLs on top variants. The rear though has a very distinctive design with the three creases on the C-pillar and a squarish taillight cluster. On the insides though expect the Ignis to look every bit premium. There could be a touchscreen infotainment system on offer, along with a completely new instrument cluster and dashboard layout. Automatic climate control will be offered on the top variants.
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be powered by familiar set of engines namely the 1.2-litre K-series petrol and the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine. There will an option of both automatic and manual gearboxes and expect it to be class leading in terms of fuel efficiency. We also expect it to come with 2 airbags and ABS as standard on all variants considering the growing awareness of safety on our roads. The Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be sold only via the company’s NEXA outlets which though few in number across the country are rising quite rapidly. We expect the car to be launched during this upcoming festive season and could be priced from as low as Rs. 4.50 lakhs for the base petrol.
