2020 Skoda Octavia – all that you need to know

The 4th generation Skoda Octavia has been revealed and the Premium sedan has gone grander than before. The Skoda Octavia is built on Volkswagen Groups MQB platform and as per the data released the New Gen Octavia now gets much more practical, dynamic and a lot more fuel efficient too.

The New Octavia stands at 4689mm in length which is 19mm more than the predecessor, the width too stands at 1829mm which is up by 15mm while the wheelbase is also up by 5mm. The boot space on the New Octavia now stands at 600 litres up by 10 litres over the 3rd Gen Octavia which has 590 litres. Incidentally the Octavia also celebrates its 60th anniversary this year.

In terms of exterior styling the new Octavia takes its design cues from its big brother the Superb that includes a wider Butterfly grille, sharp bodylines, sleek bumpers, all new design LED headlight and tail lights, restyled alloy wheels with options of 17 inches to 19 inches, all new styling on the tailgate with SKODA nomenclature on it.

On the inside the 4th Gen Skoda Octavia comes with all new dashboard with lot of premium touches on it. Premium touches include an all new sleek style two spoke steering, trendy looking centre console housing the latest gen 10-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system which also includes the Climate control in it.

Feature list inside the cabin include ambient lighting, head up display, collision avoidance assist system, turn assist, exit warning, latest gen Skoda Adaptive cruise control, connected car feature with built-in e-sim, panoramic sunroof.

Safety features include eight airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, rear view camera, electronic stability control, traction control etc.

Engine options on the 2020 Skoda Octavia include a plug-in hybrid while the petrol line-up will consist of the 1.0-TSI, 1.5-TSI, 2.0-TSI, the first two engine options also come with a 48V mild hybrid setup on the DSG option list. The 2.0-TSI will come with the 7-speed DSG transmission option along with all wheel drive (AWD). The plug-in hybrid engine option comes with a electric motor mated with the TSI engine with power output of 204PS and 245PS along with the 6-speed DSG transmission. There also is a CNG variant with 130PS of power output utilising the 1.5L TSI mated to the 6-speed manual or 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.

Diesel engine options on the 2020 Skoda Octavia includes the 2.0-litre TDI EVO in three state of tune. This is the Euro 6d compliant engine which is cleaner than even the BS-VI engine norms. The three tune options on this 2.0L Diesel engine include 115PS, 150PS and 200PS with 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG automatic transmission options.

In the overseas markets the Octavia is sold also in the Estate body style (India also had the Octavia Combi many years back) and here in India we would be only getting the 5-door sedan version. The 2020 Skoda Octavia will be unveiled in India at the 2020 Auto Expo and launched later next year. The Skoda Octavia rivals the Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Corolla Altis in its segment.
