Aprilia SXR125 Road Test Review

Welcome back to MotorworldIndia Readers..! Last time we met the team at Aprilia India during the End of 2020, it was in Lonavala for the launch of the All New SXR160, a power-scooter with a 160cc 3-valve engine paired with an all new design language & body panels inspired from their world famous product, the Aprilia RSV4. Well, this time around, we met in Pune, for the launch of their all-new offering, the SXR125. It’s the same Royal experience &  feel with exact same cycle parts of the SXR-160 with a more fuel efficient & pocket friendly 125cc 3 valved engine.

Getting into the design first, it’s the exact same body panels & cycle parts from the SXR-160 carried down into the SXR125. It looks exactly the same as the elder sibling, just with its differentiated SXR-125 branding. It gets the exact same Dual LED headlamp unit & the same digital instrument cluster from the
elder sibling, making it an futuristic machine.

I wonder, if they wanted to match the exact experience of the SXR-160, since Aprilia has made no effortsreally to actually differentiate it visually. Not just that, the SXR-125 will dawn the exact same color schemes too. You can take it the way you want to, but this scooter really stands out of the crowd with its world class design & out- standing world-renowned RSV4 headlight design.

It gets a similar frame as the SXR-160, which is tried & tested & has proved its worth. In terms of braking too, the SXR125 gets the same 220mm front disk brake setup, while on the rear, its equipped with a 220mm drum setup. Exactly as the elder SXR160,Only difference being, the SXR160 gets ABS, while the
SXR125 gets equipped with CBS.

The SXR125 also gets the exact same 12 inch alloy wheels and 120/70-12 tubeless tyres on the front and rear, as the SXR160. The Suspension setup also is same, and on the front sits a telescopic suspension setup, while on the rear is the 5 step adjustable hydraulic shock absorber. The setup is slightly on the stiff side, to accommodate stability on higher speeds, but in city potholes n broken roads, it can give your back a pinch.

In terms of features, the scooter carries forward SXR-160s all LED lighting setup, it gets the exact same instrument cluster with an all-digital cluster that
houses the tachometer, speedometer, battery voltage indicator, fuel indicator, range to empty, average fuel consumption indicator, digital clock and a ODO &
a tachometer.

Sounds really futuristic right? Well, yes it does, but dunno why, Aprilia hasn’t equipped with the SXR125 with a Side Stand Immobilizer, which we believe is basic standard feature. Other than this, the Aprilia SXR-125 is loaded with twin glove box, USB charging, Underseat lit 21-litre storage. Coming to the engine now, the SXR-125 runs on a 125cc 3-valved engine fueled by a fuel injection system. Its top half of the engine is similar as the SR-125, though the CVT is retuned to manage that additional weight &balance the performance expected from Aprilia’s. In terms of figures, this engine delivers 9.52PS of power and 9.2Nm of Torque which lets the SXR-125 easily cruise at 80-90kmph. With a fuel capacity of 7 litres, the SXR-125 gets a range from full to empty upto 250 kms usable range.

To conclude, the SXR125 is undoubtedly the most meanest & stylish looking125cc motorscooter. And now with its smaller engine, the SXR platform is now
available with a fuel efficient engine. So technically, to get the same attention as the SXR160, with better fuel mileage so you can maxify your rides. Priced at an ex-showroom cost of Rs.1,15,xxx/-, the SXR125 is not the most affordable scooters of the lot, but definitely the most stylish & performance oriented. The SXR125 will be sold besides the Storm125 & the SR125. Looks like Aprilia is gettingg all its guns out to aggressively make a mark in the 125cc segment, which is the fastest growing segment in scooters. Lets wait n watch, where the SXR125 takes Aprilia to.
