BYD Atto 3 Electric SUV Unveiled in India, goes 521kms in Single Charge
BYD has unveiled their SUV model for India with the Atto 3 all electric SUV. The car maker plans to officially launch the Electric SUV later in 2023. Bookings for SUV are also now open and the car maker has said the first 500 units will be delivered in January 2023. The BYD Atto 3 for the Indian market comes with a 60.48kWh battery pack. Customers can choose from four colour options.
In terms of exteriors the Atto 3 comes with the BYD family ‘Dragon Face 3.0’ design theme, with curved character lines in the front and on the sides too. The face houses a large chrome grille along with LED headlamps, DRLs and a neatly designed bumper. The EV SUV drives on 18-inch wheels shod with 215/55 R18 tyres and a forward-sloping roofline. At the rear, you gets a single-piece tail lamp and a large ‘Build Your Dreams’ logo on the boot lid. The Atto 3 with 2720mm will become the largest wheelbase electric SUV under Rs 30 lakh where it goes up against the likes of the Tata Nexon Prime Nexon EV Max, Mahindra XUV400, MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona Electric.
In terms of interiors the BYD Atto 3 gets keyless entry and go, unique design dashboard, AC vents, door handles and speakers, multi-colour ambient lighting that work on music, 12.8-inch touchscreen display which can be rotated horizontal or vertical position, panoramic sunroof, climate control, powered front seats, a one-touch electric opening/closing tailgate and an ADAS suite. On the safety front, you get seven airbags, ABS, ESP, hill-hold assist, a 360-degree camera and six radars for the ADAS system.
On the ADAS front the Electric SUV gets adaptive cruise control with full speed and stop-and-go functionality, automatic emergency braking, front collision warning, rear collision warning, blind-spot detection, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist and rear cross-traffic alert plus prevention.
Powering the BYD Atto 3 is an 60.48kWh battery pack with an ARAI range of 521km in a single charge. The battery pack is sourced from BYD’s blade battery and can also be used for a vehicle-to-load function; this offers a power output of up to 3.3kW which can be used to run larger appliances which are usually plugged into a 15A wall socket to power domestic appliances like refrigerators and washing machines. The electric motor powering the front wheels makes 201bhp and 310Nm and is mated to a single-speed transmission. The Atto 3 has a claimed 0-100kmph figure of 7.3-seconds making it the quickest in the sub Rs. 30 Lakh price Electric car segment.
To get bigger bookings BYD is offering a 7kW Home Charger to the first 500 customers and a 3kW portable charger. The Type 2, 7kW home charger can charge the SUV from 0-100% SOC in 9.5 to 10 hours claims BYD, while a 80kW DC CCS 2 fast charger will take the SOC from 0-80% in just 50 minutes.

We expect that BYD to price the Atto 3 in the range of Rs 19 lakh to Rs 24 lakh going up against the likes of the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV400, Honda City e: HEV, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Hybrid and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hybrid in the electric and hybrid segment..
