French car maker Citroen has unveiled its 2nd car model the Made for India C3 Sub Compact SUV at a Global Media online event today. Citroen plans to launch the C3 SUV in the 1st half of 2022. Citroen C3 is based on the Common Modular Platform. Citroen C3 will be the French auto giant’s second offering in India and will rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Mahindra XUV300 among others.
Citroen had launched the C5 Aircross as its first product in India but that didn’t make a big impact on the market due to its high pricing and the car maker wants to make some noise and gather some market share with the Make for India C3. Citroen will locally manufacture the C3 at the Thiruvallur facility near Chennai in Tamil Nadu. The carmaker has said that almost 90 percent of the car’s production will be done locally to keep the cars price lower.
The Citroen C3 is built on the Common Modular Platform (CMP) and shares it with Tata Punch micro SUV that is also expected soon. Citroen says this platform is electric-ready and we could also see an EV version of C3 later. In terms of exterior the C3 measures less than four metre in length and comes with a smart face with LED head light and DRL units on either side, two chrome bars on the bonnet splits into two DRL units on both sides and also LED tail lamps in 3d styling.
The C3 comes with sporty looking alloys and has 180 mm of ground clearance. The C3 also boasts of a turning radius of 10m which should make turning in the city a breeze. The Citroen C3 will be available in four colour options which include Orange-White dual tone exterior colour, Orange-Black, Blue-White and Grey-Black combinations.
In terms of interiors the Citroen C3 gets a freestanding 10-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, one litre glovebox and 315 litres of boot space, phone clamp that is positioned next to the AC vents on the dashboard.
Citroen has not revealed any engine details but we expect the C3 to be powered with the 1.2-litre turbo-charged motor which makes 130 bhp and is likely to be mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox as well as a five-speed manual unit.
