Hyundai to Launch the IONIQ 5 EV in India this year

Hyundai has today announced that it will launch the IONIQ 5 Electric car model from its global lineup in India this year. This is a major announcement coming from the Korean car maker just days after Kia announced of getting their global EV model the EV6 into India in May 2022. The Korean car maker already sells the Kona Electric in India for the past few years and now the IONIQ will becomes the 2nd EV model on its lineup. The electric crossover was showcased at the inaugural event of the brand’s new corporate headquarters at Gurugram a few months back.

The Ioniq 5 uses the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). In terms of exteriors the IONIQ 5 comes with a closed EV face that’s styled with clamshell bonnet, unique design LED headlamps that come with dual U-shaped LED DRLs. On the sides the EV comes with 19-inch dual-tone petal-shaped alloy wheels, thick plastic cladding, flush-fitting door handles, strong crease line defining the sides of the EV. The rear of the EV gets its ‘Ioniq’ branding affixed on the horizontally on the centre of the boot, tail lamps come with pixelated graphic design and the EV also gets a roof-mounted spoiler.

In terms of interiors the Ioniq 5 comes with sliding centre console, dual-screen setup, and adjustable rear seats that are made using eco-friendly and sustainably sourced materials, flat floor at the rear and tons of space all around.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is offered with two battery options in the International markets– 58kWh and 72.6kWh. Both these battery options can be got with either a rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive configuration. On the 58kWh trim and 2WD option the EV produces 168bhp of power and 350Nm torque while the all-wheel-drive AWD version the car puts out 232bhp of power and 605Nm of peak torque. On the 72.6 kWh battery option the EV hits out out 214bhp and 350Nm on the 2WD and 301bhp and 605Nm in 4WD versions respectively.

The 350-kW ultra-fast charging can charge up the battery from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in just 18 minutes. Maximum range for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV is rated at 481 kilometres (WLTP).
