LIVE – MG Hector Unveiled in India, Launching in June

MG Motor has officially unveiled their first product for India the Hector SUV today at a glittering media event in Mumbai. Pre-bookings for the MG Hector will begin starting June and the launch is also slatted for mid June. With this MG Motor has fully kick-started its operations in India. We had a chance to witness the media reveal and have a first glimpse of the latest SUV in town at its Global unveil. The Hector comes loaded with Internet features using MG’s iSmart connected car technology which includes lots of segment and industry first features.

In terms of styling the MG Hector gets a trendy looking face with slim strip style LED DRL’s placed above the projector headlights, funky looking black mesh grille with chrome surrounds, blacked out pillars and strong character lines running all around the SUV. The MG Hector drives on 17-inch 215/60 spec tyres with black-chrome finish alloys. The interiors looks spacious and get all leather upholstery, the key highlight here being the panoramic sun roof, 10.4 inch infotainment system and TFT color instrument cluster.

We get you all the details on the features, powertrain options on the Hector. The MG Hector will be offered in four variants and available in five body color options. The engine options will include both petrol and diesel motors to choose from. The MG Hector in terms of dimensions is the longest, tallest and has the maximum wheelbase & ground clearance in its segment among the rivals. The Hector stands at 4655mm in length, 1835mm wide, 1760mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2750mm with a ground clearance of 192mm. The Hector also boasts a segment leading leg room in the first and second row. Boot space on the Hector is rated at 587 liters.

In terms of features the MG Hector will come loaded with safety and convenience features right from the base trim which include Dual air-bags, ESP and Traction control, Hill Hold control, 3-point seatbelts, ISOFIX Child seat anchors, all wheel disc brakes. The fully loaded trim will come loaded with features till the brim. First in class features like a 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, cruise control, reverse camera, LED lights, 6-way electric seats for the driver and 4-way electric seat for the front passenger, Panoramic Sunroof, MG iSmart connected car technology, full LED head lights and tail lights, key-less entry, push button start/stop, electric foldable ORVM, faux leather upholstery, 360-degree camera, heated wing mirrors, rain sensing wipers, auto headlights, ambient lighting, electric automatic tailgate to name a few. The top spec trim also gets 6-airbags along with front and rear parking sensors.

The iSmart connected car technology is master controlled using the 10.4 inch touchscreen unit that is connected via a 5G ready eSIM. This highly intelligent unit connects the car to the internet and allows the user to access features like emergency calls, vehicle status, check emails, messages etc, remote control opening and closing for the sun roof, tailgate, locks etc. This system is future ready and is also programmed to receive updates over the air to add features and new software. The system also comes with free subscription of online streaming services like Gaana and TomTom Navigation.

Engine options on the MG Hector include the 2.0-Litre Diesel and 1.5-Litre Turbo petrol units. The 2.0L Diesel engine is the Fiat sourced unit that also powers the Jeep Compass and the Tata Harrier. On the Hector the engine will churn out 170PS of power and 350Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The 1.5L Petrol engine produces 143PS and 250Nm of torque and comes with an option of a 6-speed Manual and 6-speed Dual Clutch (DCT) automatic transmission. The Petrol engine will also feature a 48 Volt Mild Hybrid system that will enhance the fuel efficiency by nearly 12%. MG claims the petrol Automatic Hector to give a fuel efficiency of 13.96kmpl and 14.16kmpl on the manual, while the diesel Hector will get you 17.41kmpl.

MG Motor have also officially announced to accept bookings starting from early June while the launch and deliveries happen later in June. The MG Hector will rival the likes of the Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV 500, Jeep Compass and also go against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks. We expect MG to price the Hector between the Rs. 15 Lakh to Rs. 20 Lakh (ex showroom).
