Rising tough competition and a more wider choice for customers has not stopped Maruti Suzuki from being the leader and the most preferred brand choice. The company is also constantly increasing its market share with reports which point towards a near 50 percent market share. Maruti now owns 48 percent of the passenger vehicles segment according to April 2016 statistics. The highest growth has been seen in the premium segment which is contributed by the Ciaz, Baleno, Vitara Brezza and the S-Cross. These 4 models accounted for 25 percent of the total domestic sales for the month of April. Bestsellers for the company like the Alto, DZire, Swift and WagonR held their top spots in their respective segments. The company ended fiscal 2015-16 with a 7-year high of 46.8 percent market share in March 2016.

The company sold 25,603 units of the Ciaz, Baleno, Vitara Brezza and the S-Cross combined that accounts for 25.42 percent of their total sales for April 2016 which stand at 1,00,709 units. The mid size sedan category saw the Ciaz sell 5,702 units which is just 91 units down to the best seller Honda City. On the other hand, the entry level hatchback category that consists of the Alto and WagonR declined by 9.9 percent. The Vitara Brezza has gathered more than 55,000 bookings, the S-Cross sells about 2,500 units a month while the Baleno is seeing very strong demand giving tough competition to the Hyundai Elite i20 which in turn negates with the drop in sales of the entry level category.

The Maruti Baleno was launched in October last year and became an instant hit with buyers looking for a premium hatchback. The S-Cross too was launched about a year ago and though sales did drop initially, the company revised its pricing which helped with its sales. The Vitara Brezza was launched in March 2016 and it is no secret that it is doing exceedingly well. The Indo-Japanese car manufacturer will further try to increase its market share in the coming months through the launch of the Ignis. It is expected to go on sale in the third quarter of 2016 and will be sold via the NEXA premium dealerships.
