2017 BMW 5-Series Debuts Globally

The India bound 2017 BMW 5-Series gets all new engines, a new integral steering system and a new high performance V8 motor and it is not even the M5 we are talking about.

BMW has finally unveiled its all new next generation 5-Series worldwide. The car has a very evolutionary design language but is based on an all new platform which is 100 kgs lighter than its predecessor. The exteriors have been made to provide a drag coefficient of just 0.22 which is very impressive. The car borrows a whole lot of features from its bigger sibling the 7-Series which is no bad thing. Things like the Remote Display Key, gesture controls and interior layout has been carried over from the more expensive 7er.

The 2017 BMW 5-Series will be offered with a wide range of engines – 520d, 530i, 530e, 530d, 540i and 550i. All engines will be offered with BMW xDrive 4-wheel drive system as an option. The 520d is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel motor that develops 190 HP, while the 530e is the plug-in hybrid variant of the bestselling luxury sedan. The 540i is powered by a 6-cylinder petrol that develops 340 HP while the range topping 550i gets a V8 petrol that develops a mammoth 462 HP. The 530d is powered by a 3.0-litre diesel that develops 265 HP and 620 Nm. India is expected to receive the following variants – 520d, 530d and 530i.

The interiors of the 2017 BMW 5-Series takes inspiration from the 7-Series with a digital instrument cluster, a new centrally mounted touchscreen infotainment system and a very similar central console. The car gets a new Adaptive driving mode (apart from Sport, Comfort and EcoPro) that adapts automatically according to your driving style. Some of the other features on the new 5-Series are the wireless charging, Remote Key Parking, etc.
