BMW Rolls Out 50,000th Locally Made Car From Chennai Plant

BMW India rolled out its 50,000th locally made car from its Chennai plant on Thursday 12th of May 2016. The milestone car was the recently launched 7-series luxury sedan.

BMW officially began locally producing its cars in India in 2007 after which there has been no looking back. The company assembles 8 models at the Chennai plant which include the BMW 1-Series, the BMW 3-Series, the BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo, the BMW 5-Series, the BMW 7-Series, the BMW X1, the BMW X3 and the BMW X5. The plant currently has a localisation level of 50 percent which it further plans to improve staying true to the Make in India initiative. BMW India is one of the top luxury brands in India and has a total of 38 sales outlets along with a parts warehouse in Mumbai, a training centre in Gurgaon NCR and development of a dealer organisation across major metropolitan centres of the country.

BMW India’s recent launches were the all new 7-series and the X1. They were launched at the 2016 Auto Expo held in Delhi. The X1 for the first time comes with a front wheel drive layout and the option of a 4-wheel drive system, while the 7-series comes loaded with futuristic technology like Gesture Control, BMW Display Key, BMW Touch Command System, Wireless Charging, Sky Lounge and Remote Control Parking. The BMW X1 is available with only a 2.0-litre diesel engine while the BMW 7-series is available with a 3.0-litre 6-cylinder diesel and a range topping petrol V8.
