Isuzu Motors has launched its second full size SUV, the MU-X in India. Isuzu MU-X is the replacement for the MU-7 SUV which was launched in 2013. The Isuzu MU-X is based on the Chevrolet Trailblazer platform, that also underpins the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross and hence gets a tough ladder frame chassis. It comes with the option of 4-wheel drive and gets a low range and high range mode too. As far as looks are concerned, the SUV gets projector headlamps with LED DRLs, front skid plate, roof rails, 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels and a roof mounted spoiler. 4 colour options are available to choose from – Silky White Pearl, Orchid Brown Mica, Cosmic Black Mica and Titanium Silver Metallic.

The Isuzu MU-X gets a 7-inch infotainment system, 10-inch roof mounted DVD player, 8 speakers, 6-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, automatic climate control, cruise control, keyless entry and go, and leather upholstery on seats and steering wheel. Boot space with all three rows up is rated at 235 litres and 878 litres with the third row folded down. The cabin is practical too, with a 60:40 split 2nd row and a 50:50 split third row of seats.

The Isuzu MU-X is powered by a 3.0-litre diesel engine that develops 177 PS and 380 Nm. These figures are not class leading but promise to offer good driveability when you hit the beaten path. The engine is mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox that transfers power to all 4 wheels via Terrain Command system. The engine delivers 13.8 kmpl under standard testing conditions. Suspension duties are carried out by independent double wishbone coil springs and a penta-link setup at the rear. Safety features include ABS, EBD, BA, ESC, traction control, dual airbags, 300mm front discs brakes and 318mm rear disc brakes. The SUV will be offered with a 3 year or 1 lakh km warranty.

Isuzu has launched two variants of MU-X in India; 4×2 AT and 4×4 AT. There is no manual variant on offer. Pricing wise, Isuzu MU-X undercuts its competitors by a few lakhs but it cannot match the competitors spread and reach as of now, especially that of Toyota’s. As of now, we have to wait and see how the market responds to this full size SUV.

Isuzu’s capabilities in the off-roading department is well known but we reserve our judgment of the vehicle till we get to do a complete road test.

Isuzu MU-X pricing (Ex-showroom Delhi)

4×2 MT – INR 23.99 Lakhs
4×2 AT – INR 25.99 Lakhs
