Mercedes Benz India is all set to launch another variant of the E-Class LWB in India on the 2nd of June 2017. The Mercedes Benz E220d will be the more affordable diesel variant of the two and is expected to be priced around Rs. 60 lakhs. The Mercedes Benz E-Class was launched in India earlier this year in the LWB avatar. The car this time around has been primarily targeted to the chauffeur driven owners with that extra dose of back seat space. The rear seat package that made the E350d so comfortable and luxurious is expected to be offered on the E220d as well. This variant will easily be the best selling of the entire line-up.

The Mercedes Benz E220d is powered by a sub 2.0-litre diesel engine from the OM 654 family. This engine develops 191 HP and 400 Nm which is about the same as class standards, although the engine will come mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The car will be rear wheel driven only and will come with drive modes. The interior though is where the magic lies. The dashboard is all new and is a mix of what you find in the luxurious S-Class and C-Class sedans.

The Mercedes Benz E220d will compete with the upcoming next generation BMW 520d, Jaguar XF diesel and Volvo S90. Over the years, the trend suggest that these are the variants that move off the shelves quickly and it will be the same in the Merc’s case as well. We might soon be able to see many more E-Class LWBs on the roads soon. And as always we will drive it to get you a comprehensive road test review. So stay tuned for the review and the launch too, on 2nd June 2017!
