MWI Car Sales Report – February 2018

We have the sales report for the second month of the year.  With sales in January  doing well, the 2nd month of the year too ended on a sweet note with all mostly players getting good sales figures and growth.

2018 Maruti Swift Petrol & Diesel

Feb has seen India’s number one car maker Maruti Suzuki registering a overall growth. Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) sold a total of 149,824 units in February 2018, growing 15.0 per cent over the same period of last fiscal. This includes 137,900 units in the domestic market and 11,924 units of exports. The Company had sold a total of 130,280 units in February 2017. The biggest growth shift coming from the New Swift, Ignis, Baleno, Dzire lineup.

2018-Hyundai-Elite-i20

Hyundai which is India’s 2nd largest car maker had a cumulative growth of 5% as compared to last year. Hyundai did domestic sales of 44,505 units and exports of 10,917 units with cumulative sales of  55,422 units for the month of February 2018. The biggest seller from here being the Elite i20 followed by the Grand i10 and the Creta.
Rakesh Srivastava, Director – Sales and Marketing, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. said, “Hyundai grew by 5.1% with a volume of 44,505 units on strong performance of the newly launched modern premium brands New 2018 ELITE i20, Next Gen VERNA along with super performer Perfect SUV CRETA in a growing market on the strength of stable interest rates and fuel prices in a faster growing economy.”

2017-Honda-City-Front-Three-Quarter (7)

Honda Cars had a good February registering. The Japanese car company registered a cumulative growth of 13% selling 156,452 units during Apr’17 – Feb’18, against 1,38,363 units in the corresponding period last year.monthly domestic sales of 11,650 units in February 2018. The City being the biggest seller of the month followed close by the WR-V, Jaaz and Amaze.
Mr. Yoichiro Ueno, President and CEO, Honda Cars India Ltd. said, “HCIL has witnessed strong sales momentum with the existing product line-up marking a cumulative growth of over 13% and we are confident of closing the financial year on a positive note. We showcased our upcoming models at the recently concluded Auto Expo 2018 which has created a significant buzz in the market. The planned reduction in volumes of current Amaze resulted in lower wholesale in February.”

Tata-Tiago-Side

Tata Motors is also on a rapid growth spree and had a good February. Tata Motors’ Passenger Vehicles sales performance was at 17,771 units as against 12,272 units, a growth of 45% over last year. The demand for Tiago, Hexa and Nexon helping this momentum with Tigor also chipping in the numbers. Tata Motors’ Commercial Vehicles domestic sales in February 2018 were at 41,222 units, a growth of 36% compared to 30,407 units in February 2017.
Mr. Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors Ltd. said, “In February 2018, we recorded a strong growth of 45%, a robust sales performance on the back of our new generation products – Tiago, Tigor, Nexon and Hexa. The UV and Car segment posted a growth of 165% & 17% respectively, clearly showcases the customers’ continue to prefer our new models. We are expanding our customer base across segments and we look forward to sustaining this growth rate and maintain cautious optimism.”

Ford India had a domestic wholesales of 9,041 units where Exports stood at 14,924 vehicles. The American car company also announced its decision to raise prices of all its vehicles by up to 4% from March 1, 2018, after the Indian government’s decision to increase import duty on auto components. The EcoSport selling big with 5438 units followed by the Aspire and the Figo.
Anurag Mehrotra, President and Managing Mirector, Ford India said “Improvements in GDP growth and other industry indicators continue to support the year on year growth of the auto industry, However, there are headwinds in terms of impending increase in interest rates, crude prices, and inflation. We also believe the increase in customs duty and the cess of exports will drive up prices, with a potential of impacting demand.”

Toyota-Innova-Crysta-Petrol-Front-Three-Quarter (2)

Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold a total of 12,705 units in the month of February 2018. TKM sold 11,864 units in the domestic market & exported 841 units of the Etios series. TKM sold a total of 11,543 units in the domestic market and exported 570 units of the Etios series in February 2017.
Commenting on the sales performance, Mr. N. Raja, Deputy Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, “We are happy that we have been able to sustain the positive growth trend registering a 3% growth in February.  We have started the year 2018 on a positive note with a cumulative growth of 11% in the first two months of Jan –Feb 2018.

2017-Mahindra-XUV500-Sportz

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. for February 2018 had a overall sales figure of 51,127 vehicles, compared to 42,826 vehicles during February 2017 with a growth of 19%. Its Passenger Vehicles segment (which includes UVs, Cars and Vans) sold 22,389 vehicles in February 2018, registering a growth of 8%. While Mahindras Commercial vehicle segment sold 20,946 vehicles in February 2018, registering a 28% growth. The domestic sales stood at 48,473 vehicles during February 2018, registering a growth of 20%. In the Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles segment, M&M sold 828 vehicles for the month, registering a growth of 16%. Exports for February 2018 stood at 2,654 vehicles, a growth of 15%.
Commenting on the monthly performance, Rajan Wadhera, President, Automotive Sector, M&M Ltd. said, “We are happy with our February performance with the business having registered a growth of 19%. This performance comes on the back of a sustained momentum and demand, both in the personal and commercial vehicle segments, which we believe will also continue in the month of March.”

Other players – Nissan Datsun had a combined sales figure of 4738 cars for February with the red-GO being the biggest seller here selling ng 2786 units.
Renault sold 7305 cars in the months and the Kwid was the forerunner here having sold 6-74 units for the month.
Volkswagen sold 3217 units in Feb with the Polo leading the way with 1470 cars getting sold followed by the Ameo with 1100 units. Notably the Tiguan is selling handsomely well with 110 units going off the shelf and 32 units of the Passat.
For FCA India the Compass was the biggest seller with 1941 units and a total of 1975 units sold or the company for this month.
