MWI Car Sales Report – June 2018
The Rain Gods have arrived and in good style, similarly the month of June has seen some good sales for the 4-wheeler industry, here`s our take on the monthly sales for the major car players.
Maruti Suzuki
India`s Numero Uno car maker Maruti Suzuki India Limited sold a total of 144,981 units in June 2018 as a result the sales grew 36.3% over the same period last fiscal. From this the company sold 135,662 units in the domestic market and 9319 units were exported as against 106,394 units in June 2017. With this the company sold a total of 490,479 units in the April-June quarter, growing 24.3% over the same period previous fiscal. This includes 463,840 units in the domestic market, a growth of 25.9 % over same period previous fiscal. Export during the quarter stood at 26,639 units. The New Swift being the biggest crowd puller here along with the Baleno, Ignis, Dzire and not forgetting the best sellers Alto and Wagon R giving them a steady momentum.
Hyundai Motor India
Hyundai Motor India the 2nd best seller in the country had a smashing June with an overall growth of 21%. The Korean car maker managed to sell 45,371 units in the month, last year the company had sold 37,562 units in June. The biggest boost on the sales being that of the heavily updated Creta and the i20 and Grand i10 all selling around 10,000 units each. Hyundai has also managed to make this their best ever Jan-June sales selling 2,75,136 units in all.
Commenting on the H1 Sales Mr. Rakesh Srivastava, Director – Sales and Marketing, HMIL said, “Hyundai product portfolio is very young and youthful and is backed by industry No. 1 Customer Service, this has brought in strong acceptance of Hyundai as Modern Premium brand with highest ever H1 volume of 2,75,136 units, with a growth of 8.6% led by Super Performer brands GRAND i10, New ELITE i20, New 2018 CRETA and Next Gen VERNA.GRAND i10, New ELITE i20 and New 2018 CRETA – Each continues to cross over 10,000 sales mark consistently while Next Gen VERNA continues to be the leading Sedan in Hyundai Portfolio”.
Tata Motors
Tata Motors also had a very successful month of June, the company has posted a overall growth of 64% in its domestic sales for the first quarter (April-June 2018), FY19 at 164,579 units compared to 100,141 units over previous year due to the continued strong month on month sales performance of its Commercial and Passenger Vehicles Business in the domestic market. In June 2018, Tata Motors sales in the domestic market grew by 54% at 56,773 units compared to 36,836 units over previous year. Tata Motors’ Passenger Vehicles (PV) domestic sales in June 2018 sold 18,213 units, a growth of 63%, over last year. This is driven by continuous strong demand for Tiago,Tigor, Hexa and Nexon. June 2018 also saw the combined production of Tiago and Tigor cross the important milestone of 200,000 units. The recently launched Nexon AMT has received an overwhelming response and is witnessing good traction in the market. Cumulative sales of PV in the domestic market for the fiscal (April-June 2018) is at 52,937 units, a growth of 52% compared to 34,858 units for the same period, last fiscal.
Honda Cars India
Honda Cars have clocked monthly domestic sales of 17,602 units in June 2018 against 12,804 units in corresponding month last year, registering a strong growth of 37.5%. The recently launched All New Amaze which has been receiving an overwhelming customers’ response sold a remarkable 9,103 units in June’18, strongly contributing to company’s growth last month. HCIL has received over 26,000 bookings of the All New Amaze since its launch. The company registered a cumulative growth of 10.5% selling 42,609 units during the first quarter of FY18-19 (Apr – June’18), against 38,562 units in the corresponding period last year. HCIL also exported a total of 486 units in June 2018.

Early arrival of monsoon across India with prospects of abundant rains, should help rural wealth and spending, bringing cheer to the auto industry over the next few months.”
Toyota Kirloskar
Toyota Kirloskar Motor had a good month too with sales standing at 14102 units in the month of June 2018. The Japanese car maker has also posted 23% growth in domestic sales in first half of 2018. The company exported 1014 units of the Etios series this month thus clocking a total of 14102 units. TKM had sold 1973 units in the domestic market and exported 1655 units of the Etios series in June 2017 as a conscious decision to lower the volumes to lessen any impact on the dealers owing to the uncertainty surrounding implementation of GST in July 2017 said the company via a release.
Commenting on the sales performance, Mr. N. Raja, Deputy Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, “We have achieved triple digit growth this month as compared to June 2017 owing to last year’s GST scenario, wherein we supplied as per the market demand which was impacted due to impending GST implementation. The real scenario of June-July sales will be clear after July end compared to Jun –July 2017. The positive growth in the first six months of 2018 over 2017 has been very encouraging. We have registered a 23% growth in Jan –June 2018 as compared to the same period in 2017. Thanks to the persistent support and trust from our loyal customers, Innova Crysta has recorded 43% growth in April-June 2018 as compared to the same quarter last year. Being the segment leader for more than a decade, it gives us the confidence that we have been able to win customer hearts through unmatchable quality, safety and innovation. We are happy that Yaris continues to enjoy good traction from customers. We will continue to push our boundaries to cater to customer needs in the country.”
Mahindra
Mahindra posted a growth of 26% in June selling 45,155 vehicles, compared to 35,759 vehicles during June 2017, a growth of 26%. The Passenger Vehicles segment (which includes UVs, Cars and Vans) sold 18,137 vehicles in June 2018, as against 16,212 vehicles in June 2017, a growth of 12%. In the commercial vehicle segment, the company sold 19,229 vehicles in June 2018, registering a 27% growth. The domestic sales stood at 41,689 vehicles during June 2018, registering a growth of 23%. In the Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles segment, M&M sold 1,108 vehicles for the month, a growth of 58%. Exports for June 2018 stood at 3,466 vehicles, with a growth of 87%.

Ltd. said, “We are happy to have garnered an overall growth of 26% for June. This growth is driven by both our commercial and personal vehicles portfolio. We hope that macro conditions such as fuel prices, interest rates and raw material prices remain at satisfactory levels to enable us and the auto industry to grow in the coming months”.
Ford
Ford India’s combined domestic wholesales and exports in June registered 18,830 vehicles, compared to 20,828 vehicles in June 2017. The domestic operations in June recorded 37% increase with 8,444 vehicles from 6,149 units in the same month last year, with the company reaching One Million domestic wholesale milestone. The export, on the other hand, registered 10,386 vehicles against 14,649 units in June 2017.

The remaining players
Renault India has sold 6636 units for the month. Jeep has done 1478 units in the month while Fiat doing 40 units this June. Volkswagen sold 2942 units and Skoda did 1394 units in all and Nissan doing 3509 units for the month.
