Volkswagen Virtus Production Begins, Launch scheduled soon

 Volkswagen Passenger Cars India announces the start of production of Virtus sedan today. The latest entrant in the premium midsize sedan segment will be manufactured at the Chakan facility in Pune, India. With the New Virtus, Volkswagen brand will fulfil its commitment under the India 2.0 project of offering two new products developed on the MQB A0 IN platform with up to 95% localization levels.

The Virtus shares its platform with the Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the Skoda Slavia all of them are developed on the MQB-A0-IN platform.  It will take on the competition in the segment which includes the Honda City, Skoda Slavia, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. In terms of the dimensions, the Virtus is similar to the Slavia which measures 4,541mm long, 1,752mm wide and 1,487mm tall making them the largest in the segment.

Commenting on the announcement, Piyush Arora, Managing Director, ŠKODA AUTO Volkswagen India Pvt. Powering the VW Virtus are two engine options, both petrol same as the Slavia, Taigun and the Kushaq. You get a 1.0-litre TSI making 115bhp with 178Nm of torque and a 1.5-litre TSI making 150bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6 speed manual and 6-speed automatic for the smaller engine and a 6 speed manual or a 7-speed DSG for the bigger engine.

The Volkswagen Virtus will be available in exterior colors such as the Wild Cherry Red, Carbon Steel Grey, Reflex Silver, Curcuma Yellow, Candy White and Rising Blue. Pre-bookings for the New Virtus have commenced across the 151 sales touch points in India and can also be initiated through the online booking platform on the Volkswagen India website.
