Volvo Achieves 1,000 Electric Vehicle Sales Milestone in India
The XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge comprise 28 percent of Volvo’s overall sales in India.
In November 2022, Volvo Car India made its entry into the electric vehicle market, marking the delivery of 1,000 EV units through its online sales platform. This milestone encompasses both the Volvo XC40 Recharge, including its single-motor, rear-wheel-drive variant, and the Volvo C40 Recharge. Together, these electric vehicles represent 28 percent of Volvo’s sales in India.
Currently, Volvo offers two electric models in India: the XC40 Recharge and the C40 Recharge. The XC40 Recharge is available in both rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) versions. The RWD variant, powered by a single motor, generates 238 PS from a 69 kWh battery, boasting a WLTP-claimed range of 475 km. Meanwhile, the AWD variant, with dual motors, produces 408 PS from a 78 kWh battery, offering a WLTP-claimed range of 505 km.
The C40 Recharge exclusively features a dual-electric motor AWD setup, driven by a 78 kWh battery pack, delivering 408 PS and a WLTP-claimed range of 530 km.
Regarding pricing, the Volvo XC40 Recharge begins at Rs 54.95 lakh for the RWD variant and Rs 57.90 lakh for the AWD variant. The C40 Recharge is priced at Rs 62.95 lakh. Competing with models like the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5, these Volvo EVs also serve as electric SUV alternatives to the BMW i4. All prices mentioned are ex-showroom, Delhi.
Looking ahead, Volvo Car India intends to introduce one new electric vehicle annually, with the ultimate goal of transitioning its entire lineup to all-electric by 2030.
