The BMW 6 Series GT is essentially the BMW 5 Series GT but with a much bigger boot and more importantly minus all the ugly looks which the 5 Series GT had become notorious for. In fact, the boot of the car has now become much more spacious with a capacity of 610 litres which can be further expanded to 1800 litres with the touch of a button which folds the rear seats electrically.

The 6 Series GT sees a major improvement in design as the BMW designers have found the way to address the styling issues charged against the predecessor. To make the 6 Series look more palatable than the outgoing model, the design team has stretched the car to 5091 mm and reduce its height by 21mm. The tailgate also sees a revised design and also now sits lower by 64 mm.

On the front, the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo carries a pair of LED powered head lights flanking the sides of a much bigger and familiar looking BMW kidney shaped grille. The BMW 6 Series can also boast of features like frameless windows, front fender vents and a major design element in wraparound tail lights with 3D styling elements.

While the interior will be similar to the outgoing 5 Series, it will carry newer features such as a free standing 10.25 inch iDrive multimedia infotainment system with voice and gesture control. On the optional front, the car can also be equipped with a semi-autonomous driving system, a heads-up display and an electrically adjustable rear comfort seats.

Variants wise, the BMW 630i will come with a 2.0 liter petrol producing 258 PS and mated to an 8-speed auto. The 640i has a more potent 3.0 liter six cylinder developing 340 PS and a 630d GT model equipped with diesel powered 3.0 liter six cylinder generating 265 PS and a monstrous 620 Nm of torque.

The US market will see the BMW 6-Series GT priced at $69,700 for the base model. News on the worldwide launch including an Indian one is awaited.
