India’s Best Selling 2-Wheeler For 2016 Is A Scooter

The Honda Activa has consecutively outrun its closest motorcycle rival by a considerable margin in the first half of 2016.

When was the last time you heard a scooter beating a motorcycle consecutively to attain the top spot for sales in our country. Honda 2-Wheelers India is one such company and the scooter is none other than the Honda Activa. This scooter has been the segment leader for years together but now it seems that it is going to give its motorcycle rivals a run for their money too. The Honda Activa has sold 13,38,015 units which is more than 1,00,000 units higher than its closest motorcycle rival, making it the best selling 2-wheeler in India for the first half of 2016.

This is the first time in 17 years that a scooter has beaten a motorcycle to take the top spot in terms of sales. The Honda Activa alone contributes to 15 percent of 2-wheeler sales in India and more than 50 percent share in the scooter segment. As mentioned above, Honda sold 13,38,015 units during January-June 2016 compared to 12,33,725 units sold during the same period last year. Growing traffic conditions in cities and the ease of riding an automatic scooter has made sure that the popularity of gearless scooters has grown steadily over the years.
