Range Rover Velar open for bookings albeit unofficially

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) had earlier confirmed that its new SUV, Range Rover Velar shall be launched by the final quarter of 2017. Now, customers interested in getting their hands on the vehicle can now pre-book the Range Rover Velar in India.

The Range Rover Velar is expected to be launched around the festive season during Diwali while deliveries of the same can be expected to commence around year end. As of now, only a handful of dealers in India are accepting the bookings for Range Rover Velar. This was confirmed by one of the dealers of Jaguar Land Rover.

The Range Rover Velar has been developed from ground up as an all new vehicle. It is based on the same platform as that of the Jaguar F-Pace SUV which was launched in 2016. The Velar is the Land Rover’s answer to bridge the gap between Evoque and Sport in the Range Rover family.

Jaguar Land Rover will launch the all new Range Rover with its newly developed “Ingenium” range of engines for the Indian market. The “Ingenium” range of engines are usually smaller (comparatively) displacement engines but tuned to produce more power and torque keeping in mind the fuel efficiency. The Range Rover Velar will be powered by a 2.0 litre diesel engine which develops 177 bhp of peak power and 430 Nm of torque. For higher variants, Land Rover may change the state of tune of the engine to extract even more power of 236 bhp and a substantial 500 Nm of torque.

The Velar will also be launched with a petrol engine, powered by a 2000 cc mill capable of producing 246 bhp pf power and a 365 Nm of torque. Based on the demand, a 3.0 litre V6 engine might also be added to the line up for those V6 lovers.

Power delivery should be taken care by the slick 8-speed automatic transmission seen doing duty in other JLR models and an all-wheel drive tech ensures sufficient traction is available in all the four wheels.Land Rover’s famous terrain response system should also make it to the model.

The Range Rover Velar will be pitted against the likes of BMW X6 and Mercedes benz GLE Coupe and is expected to be priced between Rs.80 lakh to Rs.1.1 Crore.
