Mahindra KUV 100 with cleaner styling in the works

Mahindra and Mahindra has confirmed that its new entry level SUV styled hatchback KUV 100 will receive a facelift this year. This is bit of a surprising news since the hatchback has been on sale in the country for not more than two years.

It has been understood that the hatchback has not been doing consistent sales for the past few months and has been falling short of meeting its sales targets. As per the latest developments from the Pune based Auto giant, the company is keen on refreshing its entry level product. Mr Rajan Wadhera, Executive VP, R&D and Global Product Development, Mahindra (Automotive Sector), has announced that the Mahindra KUV100 will get a refresh this year. The company has now planned to offer regular styling and feature updates to the KUV 100 to give the product a better traction in the competitive hatchback segment.

The KUV 100 hatchback’s design has not gone down well with its prospective buyers. Though the styling remains funky and to some extent imitates an SUV, it is still quirky in many angles and has put off many of its buyers in the market. As per reports, Mahindra has been planning to launch a facelift with more clean and straight design and a less extrovert rear tailgate. No information is available as far as updates to the interiors are concerned.

YoY, sales of the SUV styled hatchback has come down with only 2141 units of the KUV 100 seeing the homes of its buyers in April 2017 compared to April 2016 where 5097 units of it were sold.

The KUV 100 is powered by a new range of 1.2 L petrol and 1.2 L diesel engines developed in-house by Mahindra. In fact, the KUV 100 is the only product in the Mahindra’s line up to feature a petrol engine.

We had also earlier reported that Mahindra has been working on facelifts of its best-selling Scorpio and the top of the line offering Mahindra XUV 500 here. With the update to KUV 100, Mahindra is planning to refresh most of its models by 2018 to stand a better chance against the fierce competition.
