2024 Nissan Qashqai receives an updated appearance and enhanced technological features
Nissan has revamped the Qashqai, giving it a bold new appearance reminiscent of the electric Ariya, while also enhancing fuel efficiency. This update aims to reaffirm its position as one of Europe’s premier vehicles. With a track record of 350,000 Qashqai units sold in Europe, Nissan is optimistic that the latest model will continue to build on this success.
Design: In terms of design, the most notable update is seen in the front appearance, where the v-shaped chrome grille and peculiar tuning-fork-shaped headlamp and DRL combination have been replaced. Instead, a larger mesh grille, drawing inspiration from the chainmail armor of ancient Japanese soldiers, now takes center stage. Concealed headlights and ultra-slim DRLs contribute to a sleeker aesthetic. Nissan has also revealed that the upper light strips serve as turn indicators with a sequential function.
Changes to the rear are more subtle, featuring a fresh set of rear LED lights and a revised bumper with a more aggressive lower section to impart a sportier look to the Qashqai. Opting for the new N-Design grade further enhances the sporty appeal with color-coded body trim and 20-inch wheels, replacing the standard 18-inch and 19-inch variants. Additionally, new color options such as Pearl White, Pearl Black, and Deep Ocean are available, with two of them (excluding black) offering a two-tone roof option.
Performance: The Qashqai will only be available with electrified powertrains that incorporate the e-Power system, which drives the front wheels via an electric motor rated at 190PS and 330Nm of torque. The motor is powered by a 1.8 kWh battery, which is charged only by a 1.5 litre turbocharged inline-three variable compression petrol engine producing 156PS.
Aside from the e-Power system, the SUV may also be equipped with a 1.3 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine enhanced by a 12-volt mild hybrid system. This engine produces 140PS and 240Nm or 160PS and 270 Nm and comes with either a six-speed manual or CVT transmission; all-wheel drive is available.
Interior and aesthetics: The interior updates are relatively subtle, including refreshed finishes for the dashboard and center console, along with new upholstery patterns, ambient lighting, and Alcantara accents available on higher-spec variants. However, the most notable enhancement is the introduction of a brand-new infotainment system based on Google’s Android Automotive OS. This system integrates Google Maps and Google Assistant for enhanced connectivity and functionality. Furthermore, the visuals on the 12.3-inch central touchscreen and digital instrument panel have been revamped to provide a more modern and user-friendly interface.
Each new Qashqai model will come equipped with enhanced safety features compared to previous iterations. These additions include a driver fatigue attentiveness alert, autonomous emergency braking, emergency lane-keeping assist, and accident data recording capabilities.
