The Volkswagen Ameo is a car that German brand is gunning after. This is the car that is made for India and is a part of the highly competitive sub 4-metre sedan space. It was launched last year at an attractive price and is now sounds like even more value after the GST implementations. The Volkswagen Ameo range now starts at Rs. 4.99 lakhs, but this is just for a limited period. The carborrows many features from the Vento as well the Polo which it is based upon. The Ameo competes with cars like the 2017 Maruti DZire and 2017 Hyundai Xcent.
The Volkswagen Ameo is powered by 2 engines – a 1.2-litre petrol with 74 HP and a 1.5-litre diesel with 110 HP. While the petrol is mated to only a 5-speed manual gearbox, the diesel gets the option of a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The manual gearbox is available in 3 variants – Trendline, Comfortline and Highline, while the DSG automatic has been introduced on the top two trims only. Dual airbags and ABS have been made standard across the range. Also exclusive to the DSG automatic variants are safety features like ESP and Hill Hold Control.
